Rocket Money alternative

A Rocket Money alternative that keeps your money private

Bring your Rocket Money history with you, see every account in one place, and keep your data on your household's own site: never sold, never shared, no ads.

Why people look for an alternative

Rocket Money is a capable app with a free tier, and it can cancel subscriptions and negotiate bills for you. People who leave usually want something different: their finances out of a large company's cloud, no offers or sponsored links, and room for the whole household.

Rocket Money's privacy notice lists sharing with its affiliated Rocket companies for their marketing, which you can limit, and for joint marketing with other financial companies, which you can't. Its terms describe sponsored offers in the app. See the comparison for the sources and the date we checked.

What FrugalVue does differently

  • Your own site. Each household gets its own FrugalVue and its own database, not a shared pool. Only people you add can sign in.
  • Never sold or shared. No ads, no offers, no trackers. Your numbers aren't how FrugalVue makes money.
  • Read-only banks. A read-only connection through SimpleFIN Bridge. FrugalVue can't move money and never sees a bank password.
  • A year of history on day one. Import 12–14 months from a Rocket Money export or any bank's CSV, OFX or QIF download.
  • The whole household. Everyone signs in with their own Google account, at no cost per person, and picks their own look.
  • More than a tracker. Budgets built from what you really spent, giving planned first, expense reports with receipts, a loan payoff planner, and a bank-switch wizard.

Switching takes an afternoon

  1. Export from Rocket Money. Download your transactions as a CSV file.
  2. Import into FrugalVue. Accounts are matched, categories and payee names come along, and repeated rows are skipped.
  3. Connect your banks, read-only. SimpleFIN Bridge picks up every morning from where the file ends.
  4. Check your bills and budget. Recurring bills are found for you, and the first budget starts from a year of real spending.

When Rocket Money may suit you better

If you want a free app and someone to cancel subscriptions or negotiate bills for you, Rocket Money is built for that. If you want your household's money private and in one place you control, FrugalVue is built for that.

Questions

Can I bring my Rocket Money history?

Yes. Export your transactions from Rocket Money as a CSV and import the file into FrugalVue. Your categories and clean payee names come with it, and the daily bank connection picks up where the file ends without counting anything twice.

Does FrugalVue cancel subscriptions or negotiate bills?

No. FrugalVue finds your recurring bills and subscriptions, keeps cancelled ones out of your averages and shows what is still to come, but it doesn't contact companies for you. Rocket Money does, with paid plans.

Is there a free tier?

Not today. FrugalVue is in invite-only early access, and we talk through costs when we reply. The daily bank connection, SimpleFIN Bridge, is a separate service with its own small yearly fee.

Can my partner use it too?

Yes. Everyone the owner adds signs in with their own Google account and sees the same household, at no cost per person.
